Eligibility:
1. Postgraduate in Social Sciences with at least 55% marks.
2. The fellowships are open to persons preferably below the age of 35 years and who have qualified NET examination of UGC /M.Phil / or have published two research articles in reputed journals in social sciences (reprints to be attached). The scholars would be allowed to get registered for Ph.D within six months of award of fellowship. One year’s time for registration shall be given to the scholars at the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore and the Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram in view of pre-Ph.D foundation course being conducted by them. In case of non-clearance of foundation course/non-registration of candidate his/her fellowship may be discontinued.

Age:
The upper age limit for a doctoral fellow is below 35 years ,(relaxable by 5 years in case of SC/ST). For teachers and professional staff of research institute holding regular posts the upper age limit would be 45 years. In exceptional cases, where a candidate is found to have outstanding ability, the age limit may be relaxed marginally at the discretion of ICSSR.

Value:

The selected candidates will be paid a fellowship amount of Rs.6,000/- per month plus Rs.12,000/- per annum as contingency grant. Duration of the fellowship is two years and extendable by one year in exceptional cases only. A proposal to revise the rates of fellowship is pending with the Government of India.
In case of an employed scholar his/her salary will be protected. In addition, a contingency grant of Rs.12,000/- per annum will also be paid. Duration of a salary-protected fellowship will, in no case, be more than two years.

Centrally administered Doctoral Fellowships are awarded by the ICSSR on the basis of selection through an interview to be held at the office of the ICSSR, New Delhi.

(NET for JRF/Lecturership)/ M.Phil/or two research articles published in reputed social sciences journals (reprints to be attached)

Fulbright-CII Fellowships for Leadership in Management

Fulbright Senior Research Fellowships

The senior research fellowships aim to provide Indian scholars the opportunity to do research on contemporary issues and concerns to contribute to the creation of knowledge. The fellowships will be for a duration of up to eight months and will provide opportunities for research. Recipients will be affiliated to a U.S. university or research institution.

Areas of Research
Applicants must demonstrate the relevance of the proposed research to India and/or the U.S., its benefit to the applicant’s institution, the feasibility of accomplishing the research goal within the stipulated period, and the need to carry out the research in the U.S.  The research areas are as follows:

  • The United States including American literature, history, government, economics, law, sociology, and cultural anthropology, religion in the U.S., international relations, film studies, and multiculturalism;
  • Education including educational administration, educational policy and planning, elementary education, and special education;
  • Society and Development including agriculture, civic engagement (voluntary sector and allied studies), criminology, developmental economics, environmental issues, gender and development, human resource development and labor issues, human rights, international trade, media/mass communication studies, population issues, public health, science and technology policy and management, social reform, sustainable development, urban studies and vocationalization in higher education;
  • Global Business Studies including management strategy and policy, management information systems, international business, management of non-profit organizations, organizational behavior, marketing, human resources management, and entrepreneurship.

Affiliation
The Fulbright Program decides the placement and assists those selected who have been unable to arrange an affiliation.  USEFI encourages all applicants to identify institutions with which they wish to be affiliated and to correspond, in advance, with potential host institutions.

Grant Benefits
The fellowships provide round-trip travel from India to the U.S., a monthly stipend, Accident and Sickness Program for Exchanges per U.S. Government guidelines, a modest settling-in-allowance, and a professional allowance. Subject to availability of funds and Fulbright regulations, grantees may be provided with travel and a dependent allowance for one accompanying dependent.

Eligibility Requirements
In addition to the General Prerequisites, the applicant should:

  • be permanently employed as a full-time faculty member in an Indian college, university or a research institution or as a full-time professional at an Indian not-for-profit organization and be eligible for leave. Applications must indicate that leave will be granted;
  • have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent published work; and
  • preferably be 50 years of age or under.

Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program

The Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program will provide opportunities to up to eight Indian secondary school teachers (9th to 12th grades) of English, Mathematics, or Science to participate in direct exchange of positions with U.S. teachers for the semester beginning August/September 2009. Indian teachers selected for this exchange will have the opportunity to work within a U.S. school system and experience U.S. society and culture. Similarly, U.S. teachers will work in an Indian school and share their expertise. The perspective will benefit both the Indian and U.S. teachers and flow through to their students, schools and communities.

Duration of the Grant: One semester (August-December 2009/January 2010) 

Eligibility Requirements
In addition to the General Prerequisites, the applicant should:

  • have a master’s degree in English, Mathematics, or Science subjects with a teacher training degree;
  • be a full time teacher (9th to 12th grades) with five or more years of experience in a recognized secondary school; and
  • must be eligible to obtain leave with pay during the period of exchange. 

School’s Agreement to Host
Direct exchange of teaching assignments requires that the Indian school also agree to accept a teacher from the U.S. The Indian school will have no financial obligations with regard to the U.S. teacher.  However, the school should be willing to facilitate housing for the U.S. teacher. Both the U.S. and Indian teachers must secure a leave of absence with pay.

If an Indian teacher is proposed for an exchange, his/her school will have the opportunity to review the credentials of the U.S. teacher who will be exchanging the position with the Indian teacher, and to accept or reject the proposed exchange arrangement.  In order for an exchange to take place, it must be accepted by the U.S. teacher, the U.S. school administrators, the Indian teacher and the Indian school administrators, and must be approved by the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB). The U.S. exchange teacher requires clearance by the Government of India.

Grant Benefits
The grant will provide a monthly stipend, round-trip economy class air travel, modest settling-in and material allowance, and accident and sickness coverage per U.S. Government guidelines.

Note: No allowance or travel is provided for dependents and the stipend provided under the grant is not sufficient to support family members. Scholars with accompanying dependents must have adequate personal funds to support their stay in the U.S.

Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program

The Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State as a key component of the National Security Language Initiative, provides young college teachers of English or those training to be teachers of English, an opportunity to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the cultures and customs of the United States while strengthening the instruction of foreign languages at U.S. colleges and universities.  Applicants must be between 21 and 29 years old at the time of application.  Selected FLTA fellows from India will teach Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu at select U.S. campuses during their nine-month grants.

International Fellowships Program (Ford Foundation Graduate Fellowships)

The International Fellowships Program (IFP), funded by the Ford Foundation, provides opportunities for advanced study to individuals who will use this education to become leaders in their respective fields, furthering development in their own countries and greater economic and social justice worldwide. The India Program is especially designed to support candidates from social groups that have been marginalized and lack systematic access to higher education such as women, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward classes, physically disadvantaged and those with other kinds of socio-economic deprivation.

The IFP provides support for formal post-graduate study.  Fellows are chosen on the basis of their academic excellence as well as for their leadership potential and commitment to community service.  Fellows may enroll in a master’s level program and may pursue any academic discipline or field of study that is consistent with the interests and goals of the Ford Foundation. Once selected, Fellows may enroll in universities in any part of the world, including universities in India. IFP will provide placement assistance and will support Fellows to undertake appropriate short-term language study and training in research and computer skills prior to enrollment.

2009 International Fulbright Science and Technology Award for Outstanding Foreign Students

The United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) invites applications from interested Indian applicants for the International Fulbright Science and Technology Award for outstanding foreign students.  This award is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and is designed to be the most prestigious international scholarship in science and technology.  The International Fulbright Science and Technology Award reaffirms America’s pre-eminence and competitiveness in the fields of science, technology, and engineering, as the U.S. remains the most attractive destination for serious scientific and technological research and study.

The International Fulbright Science and Technology Award is for PhD study at top U.S. institutions in science, technology, or engineering beginning August/September 2009.  The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State will fund grants for up to three years under this program.  After three years, U.S. universities will cover the remaining expenses toward completion of a PhD.  Academic placement (university admission and other formalities) of the selected scholars will be handled by the International Institute of Education (IIE).   Fellows will travel to the U.S. on J-1 visas and will be subject to J-visa regulations.

In the third year of this program, approximately 40 awards will be offered worldwide for candidates who demonstrate unique aptitude and innovation in scientific fields. Two principal nominees from India will compete with candidates from all over the world for this fellowship.  Application deadline: May 1, 2008.

Grant Benefits

The fellowship will provide the following benefits:

1. Activities, tuition and fees for up to 36 months;

2. A monthly stipend for up to 36 months;
3. Book and equipment, and professional conference allowances;
4. J-1 visa sponsorship for up to five years;
5. Round-trip airfare from fellow’s home city to the host institution in the United States;

6. Health and accident coverage as per U.S. Government guidelines; and
7. Specially tailored enrichment activities.

 

After three years, U.S. universities will be expected to cover the remaining expenses toward completion of a Ph.D.  If necessary, after five years, the U.S. Dept of State will transfer sponsorship to the host university assuming satisfactory continuing progress toward Ph.D. completion.


The International Fulbright Science and Technology Fellowship program provides no additional funding to support dependents.

 

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant should:

1. be a responsible Indian citizen who can contribute to a full and fair picture of the culture and civilization of India, and thereby help to promote understanding and friendship between the peoples of the United States and India;

2. have a high level of academic/professional achievement;
3. be proficient in English with a recent TOEFL score (or equivalent, like IELTS), of 580 or higher.
Candidates who do not have valid TOEFL scores at the time of application but are selected as nominees, will be required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL);
4. be present in India at the time of submitting the application and for the interview, if required;

5. be eligible for leave, if employed;
6. be in good health;
7. not be applying for or holding permanent residence (green card) in the United States;
8. hold a valid Indian passport no later than May 1, 2008;
9. Have completed an equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a recognized Indian
university with at least 60% marks. Applicants should either possess a four-year bachelor’s degree or a completed master’s degree, if the bachelor’s degree is of less than four years duration, before August 1, 2009.

Eligible fields include Aeronautics and Astronomics/Aeronautical Engineering, Astronomy/Planetary Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Sciences/Engineering, Engineering (electrical, chemical, civil, mechanical, ocean, and petroleum), Environmental Science/Engineering, Geology/Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Information Sciences/Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, Mathematics, Neuroscience/Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Oceanography and Physics.

Selection Process, Timeline and Criteria

The International Fulbright Science and Technology Award is a merit-based, open competition.  After the deadline, a panel of specialists will review all eligible applications in India and nominate two principals and one alternate Indian candidate. USEFI will forward the Indian nominations to the U.S. for a technical review of all nominee applications. Should a principal nominee not meet eligibility requirements, s/he will be disqualified, and the alternate nominee will be upgraded to principal nominee status.  Those designated as alternates will only be elevated if a principal is disqualified. After the technical review, up to two principal nominees from each country will be presented for review to a U.S.-based selection committee, which will include prominent academics and professionals in the appropriate scientific fields.

The Indian candidates recommended as nominees must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), as well as the General and Subject Graduate Record Examination (GRE), if applicable, no later than August 2008. Candidates, who do not have valid GRE scores at the time of application but are selected as nominees, will be required to take the GRE General Test.  A nominee is expected to have achieved a quantitative score of at least 700. In addition, a GRE subject test will be required of all candidates selected as nominees for the following fields of study: biology; biochemistry; cell and molecular biology; chemistry; computer science; mathematics; and physics. USEFI will provide test fee vouchers for taking the required tests. Applicants who have taken tests should submit copies of their score reports along with their applications by the May 1 deadline.

 

The U.S. based committee will make its selection from applications worldwide. Applications of candidates selected by the U.S-based committee will then be forwarded for approval to the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and then placement by IIE. IIE will identify appropriate U.S. institutions and apply on the behalf of finalists, taking into consideration their fields of study and research interests to ensure the best placement available. If a recommended candidate has previously applied to U.S. institutions and has requested a deferral from the institution, the candidate should indicate this on the university preference page on the application form.

How to Apply

The announcement and the application for the 2009 Fulbright International Science and Technology Award are posted on the USEFI website
www.fulbright-india.org.  Each applicant is required to submit an online application along with supporting documents. A complete application includes:

1. a clearly written research objective;
2. a professional resume;
3. three letters of reference;
4. official (or scanned and attached to the online application) academic transcripts from each

    post-secondary institution attended, or sent to USEFI, New Delhi as indicated below;
5. English language test scores (when available);
6. GRE General and GRE subject exam test scores (when available).

Carefully follow all application instructions for completing the Fulbright International Science and Technology Award Program on-line Application. All employed applicants should apply through proper channel. 

 

In addition to submitting the application online, you must send the following to the

6. FOREIGN NATIONAL STUDENTS

 

1. Foreign National students are exempted from the requirement of admission test

(CAT/DAT) for the academic programmes of the university. They can apply either

on self financing basis or through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR)

attched to the Ministry of Human Resources development of the Govt. of India. They

are required to submit the application through online for the academic programme

of the University on payment of US$ 100 by way of Demand Draft / Pay order/Any

other instrument (which does not involve collection charges on the part of the University)

in favour of Registrar, CUSAT payable at New York.

 

2. Applicants who have succesfully Registered online with CUSAT may forward an

advance copy of the confirmation page along with payment (D.D/Pay Order etc)

7. HOW TO REGISTER ONLINE

 

I. Candidates are instructed to read thoroughly all sections of Key Information

II. Candidates are required to fill in all details correctly (SC/ST, Communal /Special

Reservation, under OEC etc.) failing which the claim under the said categories will

not be considered at all.

 

III. Applications without the Demand Draft will be rejected.

 

IV. Incomplete form will not be accepted by the system. Any error in the entries leading

SET Test for Symbiosis Undergraduate Programmes 2008

1. Symbiosis Entrance Test Overview

Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is a common written test for the admission processes of undergraduate institutes of Symbiosis International University [SIU] established under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 vide notification No.F.9.12/2001 U.3 of the Govt. of India. Subsequently ten more Institutes of Symbiosis have been brought under the ambit of Symbiosis International University vide notification No.F.9.12/2006-U.3 (A).

It is a mandatory written test for the admission process for the undergraduate programmes of these Symbiosis institutes. However, it is only the first step. Each Symbiosis institute has its independent selection process.

Student aspiring to pursue an undergraduate programme at Symbiosis needs to follow the 3 stages mentioned below:

Stage-1: SET Test

Register online at www.set-test.org

Candidates can register either for General or for Design or for both.

Follow the instructions for payment of Test fee of Rs. 800/- on this website for both streams.

On closing of Registration, print “Admit Card” from the website.

Paste a recent photograph on the Admit Card.

Bring the Admit Card on which the photograph is pasted and a Photo Identity to the Test Center.

(Candidates shall preserve the Admit Card till the Admission process of the desired Symbiosis Institutes is over. If the Admit card is lost, no duplicate Admit Card will be issued.)

Appear for the Test.

Stage-2: Submit Application form to the desired SIU’s constituent institutes.

Purchase the prospectus and application form of the desired institute.

The SET website allows a facility for online purchase of prospectus & application form for all of these institutes and also pay SET fee.

Complete the application procedure of the desired institute.

Apply for both General and Design.

Apply also for one or more SIU’s constituent institutes.

Stage-3: Attend further selection process of the chosen institutes, if called.

Each institute has its own weightages for arriving at a cutoff, depending on its focused field as mentioned in the prospectus of each constituent institute.

The institutes will announce a short list for attending further selection process.

The individual institute as per their schedules will announce Merit List & Waiting Lists.

Important:

While adequate care is taken in ensuring that there are no mistakes in reading the answer sheet by the scanning machine, there is no provision of revaluation of the answer sheet of any candidate.

The scores published by the Symbiosis Test Secretariat shall be final and shall not be subject to any appeal or revaluation.

The SET Score card will be available on the website for a period of one month from the date of declaration of results i.e. June 19, 2008.

2. SET Structure

SET duration is 150 minutes.

SET is an aptitude test and is objective in nature. Each question has four options as answers and carries one mark for correct answer. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.

  1. How to Register For SET – 2008?

Step 1. Candidate can select both General and Design by registering separately and making payment separately. Register at www.set-test.org. This will generate your SET ID. For different modes of payment, different ‘Payment Advice’ formats are created. Choose a payment mode and print a ‘Payment Advice’ form online.

Step 2. Pay a non-refundable fee of Rs. 800/- for General and Rs.800/- for Design separately if candidate desires to apply for both according to the payment mode. You have three choices for payment.
