Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) invites applications from eligible candidates for admission to the academic programmes for the year 2008-09 as listed below. Admissions are based on

Common Admission Test (CAT)/

Departmental Admission Test (DAT)/

Test for Lateral Entry (LET).

Eligibility conditions and other particulars appear in the detailed notification published in the website www.cusat.nic.in. Candidates who have appeared/are appearing for their final qualifying examinations are also eligible to apply. Degrees obtained through distance education programmes other than through IGNOU are not recognized by the University.

 

Those who are applying for First Degree Programmes in Engineering & Technology

(B.Tech and Integrated M.Sc. in Photonics) : the CAT will be conducted on all India basis with test centres in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad,

Lucknow, Ranchi, Varanasi, Allahabad, Jamshedpur, Kota, all district head quarters of

Kerala and Overseas Centre at Dubai.

 

Those who are applying for PG Programmes / First Degree Programmes including LL.B

/ both Programmes : the CAT will be conducted only in the Centres at all the district head

quarters of Kerala and New Delhi.

 

The University reserves the right to cancel any or all the notified test centres for administrative reasons including dates/rules and regulations relating to programmes of

study, eligibility, reservation, admission criteria, fee structure and other relevent matters.

All disputes related to CAT shall be subject to the jurisdiction of Courts at Kochi only.

Appearance in the CAT or figuring in the Rank list does not ipso facto confer any right for admission to a particular course unless found suitable as per the elegibility criteria as

amended from time to time.

 

  1. ADMISSIONS THROUGH CAT-ONLINE REGISTRATION

 

Applicants for the following programmes are required to take the CAT, except where

specifically indicated otherwise

 

1.1 FIRST DEGREE PROGRAMMES

Eduational Qualification for a, b & c above: Pass in Plus Two Examination of the

State of Kerala with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects or any

other examination accepted as equivalent thereto securing a minimum of 50% marks

in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.

 

d. B.Tech. in Instrumentation

Pass in Plus Two examination of the State of Kerala with Mathematics, Physics and

Chemistry as optional subjects or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto

securing a minimum of 60% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together,

with at least 55% in Mathematics separately.

 

e. B.Tech. in Marine Engg. ** (Residential Programme)

1) Pass in Plus Two or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics

and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60% marks and

should have obtained 50% marks in English at 10th or 12th standards.

 

2) Vocational/Diploma students are not eligible to apply.

 

3) The Maximum age limit prescribed is 20 years as on 1st October 2008.

 

f. B.Tech. in Naval Architecture & Ship Building.

Pass in Plus Two examination of the State of Kerala or any other examination accepted

as equivalent thereto with a First Class securing a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics as well as for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.

 

g. 5 Year LL.B. (Hons.) (Cost sharing course)

1. Pass in Plus Two examination with 60% marks in Science / Commerce group or 55%

marks in Arts / Humanities. 2.Should not have completed 21 years of age on 1st

January of the year of admission.

 

1.2  POST GRADUATE PROGRAMMES

 

LL.M.

 

Bachelor’s degree in Law with at least 45% marks.

 

M.A. Hindi Language and Literature

B.A./B.Sc. degree with Hindi as a subject of study with at least 45% marks in Hindi.

A degree in any subject with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. * conditions

M. Sc. Biotechnology

Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Life Sciences including Agricultural and Medical

Science or Chemical Science or Chemical Engg. with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate.

 

M.Sc. Electronic Science*

First class B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Hons.) degree with not less than 60% aggregate marks in

Electronics, Computer Science, or Physics (with Electronics). Candidates with higher

degrees are not eligible for admission.

* With specialisation in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics Microwave Electronics and

Computer Technology.

 

M. Sc. Environmental Technology

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with Physics and Mathematics as subsidiaries, or

Engg. (Civil/ Public Health/ Environmental or Chemical) or Life Sciences/ Environmental Sciences/Zoology/Botany/Microbiology with 55% marks.

 

M. Sc. Hydrochemistry

B.Sc. degree in Chemistry with Physics and Mathematics as subsidiaries or B.Sc.

Admissions to the following M.Tech. programmes are based on valid GATE score as

prescribed under the academic regulations specific to each programme. Candidates not

possessing GATE may also apply, but will be considered only if GATE qualified candidates are not available. In such cases, admissions will be based on the DAT.

Ph. D programmes are offered in all the teaching Departments/Schools and recognized

Institutions of the University. Candidates are advised to ascertain the areas of research

and the availability of vacancies from the Departments/Schools or Recognized

Institutions before-hand. Candidates intending to do research in the Recognized

Institutions of the University are to obtain application forms from the University

Departments/Schools dealing with the discipline of their choice.

4. LATERAL ENTRY (LET) TO B.TECH – ONLINE REGISTRATION

Diploma recognized by the Boards of Technical Education of the States after

undergoing a regular course of 3 years duration with not less than 60% marks.

The maximum age prescribed is 25 years as on 1st July 2008.

 

5. IMPORTANT POINTS AT A GLANCE

2. For M.Phil, Ph.D, M.E by Research, Diploma and Certificate programmes, applications can be had from the concerned Departments/Schools/Centres either directly or by post.

 

3. Fee Details:

Mode of paymet: Demand Draft taken from SBI and its allied banks drawn

in favour of Registrar, CUSAT payable at Ernakulam only will be accepted.

Rs. 750/- for General Category Candidates and Rs. 400/- for SC/ST Category (for 3

programmes) Rs. 5750/- for candidates who apply under NRI Quota (for 3 programmes)

Rs. 3750/- for those opting Overseas Test centres. (candidates applying under NRI

Quota need not pay this fee) (for 3 programmes) Rs. 100/- for General Category and Rs. 50/- for SC/ST Category for each additional programme exceeding 3

7. Entry requirements for each Programme are given under ‘Eligibility Criteria’.

The responsibility for ensuring satisfactory compliance to the prescribed criteria

is vested solely with the applicant. Claims found untenable upon subsequent scrutiny

shall result in summary disqualification of the applicant concerned and cancellation

of any or all admission processes undergone.

 

8. The choice of the Test Subject/Test Centre is the sole responsibility of the applicant

and the selections once exercised in the Application Form shall be final and irrevocable

 

6. FOREIGN NATIONAL STUDENTS

 

1. Foreign National students are exempted from the requirement of admission test

(CAT/DAT) for the academic programmes of the university. They can apply either

on self financing basis or through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR)

attched to the Ministry of Human Resources development of the Govt. of India. They

are required to submit the application through online for the academic programme

of the University on payment of US$ 100 by way of Demand Draft / Pay order/Any

other instrument (which does not involve collection charges on the part of the University)

in favour of Registrar, CUSAT payable at New York.

 

2. Applicants who have succesfully Registered online with CUSAT may forward an

advance copy of the confirmation page along with payment (D.D/Pay Order etc)

and relevant documents to the following address. The original confirmation page

should be forwarded with necessary documents through the Embassy of India in the

respective country.

7. HOW TO REGISTER ONLINE

 

I. Candidates are instructed to read thoroughly all sections of Key Information

published in the website : www.cusat.nic.in. before filling up the application

 

II. Candidates are required to fill in all details correctly (SC/ST, Communal /Special

Reservation, under OEC etc.) failing which the claim under the said categories will

not be considered at all.

 

III. Applications without the Demand Draft will be rejected.

 

IV. Incomplete form will not be accepted by the system. Any error in the entries leading

to the rejection of the application form shall be the sole responsibility of the candidate.

Hence the form must be filled with the utmost attention without making any error.

 

V. Detailed instruction is given in the Registration module in the website.

 

VI. Instructions for Photograph and Signature Uploading :-

 

A) Photograph

1. If you are scanning photographs, adjust the scanner to scan at 100 resolution first.

2. Fix the output format of scanned image as grayscale (not black & white)

3. Scan the image to some image editing software like Microsoft paint/ Photoshop

etc.

4. Use “save for web” option to save the image as a JPEG file. No other format will

be accepted.

5. The image dimensions should be approximately 200 pixels (H) x 150 pixels (W)

6. The file size should be less than 10 kilobytes (kb)

 

B) For Digital Photographs

1. Resize the digital photograph to 200 pixels (Height) X 150 pixels (width) first

2. Use the “Save for web” option to save the file (Adobe Photoshop) in JPEG format

3. Make sure that the file size is less than 10 Kilobytes (kb)

 

C) Tip for reducing image file size

1. If you are using image editing software like adobe Photoshop, please use the

“Save for web” option to reduce file size.

2. During “Save for web” option, save the file in JPEG format, “medium” compression

quality

 

D) Signature

1. Adjust the scanner to scan at 100 resolutions first

2. Fix the output format of scanned images grayscale (not black & white)

SET Test for Symbiosis Undergraduate Programmes 2008

1. Symbiosis Entrance Test Overview

Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is a common written test for the admission processes of undergraduate institutes of Symbiosis International University [SIU] established under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 vide notification No.F.9.12/2001 U.3 of the Govt. of India. Subsequently ten more Institutes of Symbiosis have been brought under the ambit of Symbiosis International University vide notification No.F.9.12/2006-U.3 (A).

It is a mandatory written test for the admission process for the undergraduate programmes of these Symbiosis institutes. However, it is only the first step. Each Symbiosis institute has its independent selection process.

Student aspiring to pursue an undergraduate programme at Symbiosis needs to follow the 3 stages mentioned below:

Stage-1: SET Test

Register online at www.set-test.org

Candidates can register either for General or for Design or for both.

Follow the instructions for payment of Test fee of Rs. 800/- on this website for both streams.

On closing of Registration, print “Admit Card” from the website.

Paste a recent photograph on the Admit Card.

Bring the Admit Card on which the photograph is pasted and a Photo Identity to the Test Center.

(Candidates shall preserve the Admit Card till the Admission process of the desired Symbiosis Institutes is over. If the Admit card is lost, no duplicate Admit Card will be issued.)

Each institute has its own weightages for arriving at a cutoff, depending on its focused field as mentioned in the prospectus of each constituent institute.

Important:

While adequate care is taken in ensuring that there are no mistakes in reading the answer sheet by the scanning machine, there is no provision of revaluation of the answer sheet of any candidate.

The scores published by the Symbiosis Test Secretariat shall be final and shall not be subject to any appeal or revaluation.

The SET Score card will be available on the website for a period of one month from the date of declaration of results i.e. June 19, 2008.

2. SET Structure

SET duration is 150 minutes.

SET is an objective test and has 150 questions. SET question paper for ‘Design’ is for those seeking admission to Symbiosis Centre of Design and SET question paper for ‘General’ is for admission to all other Institutes.

SET is an aptitude test and is objective in nature. Each question has four options as answers and carries one mark for correct answer. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.

Step 1. Candidate can select both General and Design by registering separately and making payment separately. Register at www.set-test.org. This will generate your SET ID. For different modes of payment, different ‘Payment Advice’ formats are created. Choose a payment mode and print a ‘Payment Advice’ form online.

Step 2. Pay a non-refundable fee of Rs. 800/- for General and Rs.800/- for Design separately if candidate desires to apply for both according to the payment mode. You have three choices for payment.

APPLICATION FOR ENTRANCE TEST

Applications can be had from the university campus at Vallam, Thanjavur or its Information Centres at New Delhi , Chennai , Trichy and Thanjavur (the addresses given at the end) or downloaded from the University Website or obtained from any Core Banking Service (CBS) branch of Indian Overseas Bank by paying an Application-cum-Examination fee of Rs.750/-. The filled-in application must be sent to the Admissions Co-ordinator accompanied by two passport sized attested photographs, a copy of the IOB Bank Challan or a crossed Indian Postal Order for Rs.750/- payable to the Registrar, PMU at Vallam Thanjavur and a self-addressed envelope.

Vardhman Mahavir Medical College was established at Safdarjang Hospital by the Government of India in November, 2001. The college is affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

COMMON ENTRANCE TEST [CET : MBBS – 2008]

All the candidates who are keen to seek admission to MBBS programme at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi for the Academic Session 2008- 09 must appear in the Common Entrance Test : Code 23 [CET : MBBS – 2008], which will be conducted by the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Kashmere Gate, Delhi – 110 403. GENERAL STANDARD OF THE QUESTION PAPER OF CET : MBBS – 2008

and 12th under 10+2 scheme for students passing class 12th in the year 2008.

ELIGIBILITY TO APPEAR FOR EAMCET – 2008

Candidates satisfying the following requirements shall be eligible to appear for EAMCET-2008.

a. Candidates should be of Indian Nationality

b. Candidates should belong to the state of Andhra Pradesh. The candidates should satisfy local/non-local status requirements as laid down in the A.P. Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission) order, 1974 as subsequently amended.

of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh.

Candidates should have passed or appeared at the final year of the Diploma examination in Engineering conducted by the State Board of Technical Education and Training, Andhra Pradesh or any other examination recognised as equivalent thereto by the State Board of Technical Education and Training, A.P.

(ii) a) In the case of Engineering, Pharmacy courses, candidates should have completed 16 years of age as on 31 st December of the year of admission. There is no upper age limit.

b) In the case of B.Tech Dairying, B.Tech (Ag.Engineering), B.Tech (FS&T) and B.Sc (CA & BM) offered in Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, candidates should have completed 17 years of age as on 31st December of the year of admission and an upper age limit of 22 years for all the candidates and 25 years in respect of scheduled caste and scheduled tribe candidates as on 31st December of the year of Admissions.

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FOR EAMCET – 2008

There are two ways to submit the EAMCET 2008 application

  1. Online submission and 2) Offline submission

A candidate may submit the application in either of the two ways. In any case, the candidate has to purchase the application, which contains a unique application number and a code. Candidates are advised to keep these numbers confidential, so that someone else does not misuse it. After purchasing the application form, the following procedure should be followed for submission of the same.

Open the application form and fill it carefully. Pay special attention to sign within the given box and paste the photo at the exact place as this application is processed by computer automatically. In case an application is submitted in both ways, the details of the offline submission will prevail.

Online Submission:

Application can be submitted Online from any place where a personal computer with a scanner and Internet facility is available by accessing the EAMCET website (http://www.apeamcet.org). JNT University has made arrangement for online submission from its various affiliated colleges, as mentioned in website. This facility is available at free of cost. Scan the marked portion of the application form in 150 DPI 8 bit color/ Grayscale JPG image and keep it ready before filling the online submission form. After entering the details, attach the scanned image and submit the form. After verification, your data will be presented back so that the candidate can verify and either submit or cancel the data. If the data is submitted, the candidate is given a registration number and the

data can be printed for future reference. The registration number should be used for any further correspondence till the hall ticket is issued.

If the form is submitted on-line, the duly filled application form should be handed over to the invigilator at the time of examination, if it is not submitted in person or by post. For quick action and response, the candidates are encouraged to submit online on or before 14-03-2008 by 5-00 pm.

Offline submission:

  1. The application for EAMCET-2008 should be completed in all respects before submission to the Convener. One recently taken Colour passport size (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm) photograph of the applicant, is to be affixed in the space provided for the purpose. Only latest photograph should be affixed as this will be used for issuing “HALL – TICKET”.

2. The filled in application forms should be submitted preferably in person at the Venue of The Regional Centre opted by the candidate and obtain the acknowledgement card with Registration No. or send by Registered Post to the Convener, EAMCET-2008, SIT Building, Cellar portion, J.N.T.
